2023 Blogomania!!!

All right!  It’s time for the 2023 blogging season!  We’ve been waiting a long time for this, and can’t wait to bring you excited food related news during our 2023 Blogomania campaign!

We will also bring special guest articles from one of our favorites - Diet Coke Dude. (That is, of course, if we can work out contract details.). There’s also this little issue that could be prohibiting DCD’s ability to author with a clean palette.  Watch out Diet Coke fans!!  Well, as they say… let he who has not eaten sugar, pop the first top!

This season, we’ll be looking for help from our loyal readers to help us identify another guest blogger.  If you know of anyone interested in a highly rewarding, yet surprisingly not very time consuming role as a blogger with The Best Tiramisu in Italy blog - please submit a comment and we’ll reach right out to them!!

Until next meal!  Enjoy dessert!

Let’s Get the 2022 Blogging Season started!!!

 Hello Tiramisu Fans!

It’s  been a long time since we’ve been able to blog.  As I’m sure you are aware, this past year has been difficult across all industries.  And there was no exception for Tiramisu Guy!

Covid has been hard on us - making it difficult to hire good, high quality writers.  And the Supply Chain issues - they really hit us hard as well.

Nonetheless, we are ready to get started and make 2022  the Summer of Blog!

Otto kick it off, we’ll start with an amazing dessert served at the Jesus Latin Bar and Grill in Mishawaka Indiana.  We had the “cake in a can” dessert - which I highly recommend.

Pictures are coming soon!  Until then…

Tiramisu Guy!

Delmonico - Emeril's Shining Star

A trip to Las Vegas would not be complete without visiting Emeril's Delmonico Steakhouse.  First, a little history of this place...

Chef Emeril Lagasse's take on the grand American steakhouse. Located in The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Delmonico Steakhouse takes its name from the legendary, century-old New Orleans institution, Delmonico Restaurant and Bar. Delmonico Steakhouse is elegant and luxurious both in cuisine and atmosphere while offering a comfortable, approachable ambiance that is as breathtaking as it is inviting. With one of the top meat selections globally, Delmonico Steakhouse focuses on in-house dry aging Creekstone Farm meat selections. Inspired by Chef Emeril’s New Orleans culinary roots, the emphasis on Creole cooking builds upon French techniques with an infusion of robust flavors that elevate the traditional steakhouse experience using the freshest and finest ingredients. Paired with one of Wine Spectators Grand Award winning extraordinary wine programs and a selection of 700 whiskeys, the level of attention to detail makes each experience restorative in nature and keeps guests coming back time after time regardless of the occasion. Whether families and friends gather to mark milestones, professionals at a business meeting, or strangers are meeting for a first date, at Delmonico Steakhouse, all moments are worth celebrating and all of guests’ expectations are honored

What a meal!  Everyone was satisfied after this adventure, and we didn't leave without - you guessed it - having a few desserts.  Unfortunately, Emeril did not delight us with his version of tiramisu - it wasn’t on the menu - but since it’s Emeril’s place we had to at least go for the pecan pie. And one our friends, who has never indulged in the deliciousness of pecan pie, went for the chocolate mousse cake.

The results were interesting to say the least. After some time to process the flavors and the feedback, I think both desserts underwhelmed our expectations, but did deliver some interesting findings.

Emeril’s Pecan Pie

Emeril’s Chocolate Mousse Cake

Ok.  Both desserts presented very well, as you can see.  What was so interesting is that our friend who had never had pecan pie before, thought it “was pretty good.”  But, our self acclaimed Pecan Pie expert (we’ll call her CleanHandzDeez) thought it was a little “meh”.  Similarly, our avowed chocolate mousse lover thought the cake was just so-so.

However, neither of those people author this blog, do they?  You are reading for Tiramisu Guy’s opinion, right?  (Can I get an Amen?)

We’ll, Tiramisu Guy says that the pecan pie was unique.  The focus of this lie was the crust, not the filling.  I will say I prefer the emphasis on the filling though.  So all in all, I give this dessert 3.5 Lady Fingers.

Now, I did manage to sneak a bite or two of the chocolate mousse cake, and must say it was pretty good. I would have never ordered it myself, but stealing a few bites of a dessert that’s already in the table - I’m on that!

Final rating for the cake - 3 Lady Fingers.  To be fair, not much in the mousse category would score very high for Tiramisu Guy.

Can’t wait to see what we’ll enjoy on our next meal out!!

Until then…

Cheesecake Factory - Tiramisu Cheesecake

Ok.  You know every restaurant doesn't serve tiramisu, right?  Well that's true but it doesn't deter Tiramisu Guy from finding great flavors every where he can.

As we continued our Vegas trip, Tiramisu Guy was the happy recipient of a slice of Tiramisu Cheesecake, from The Cheesecake Factory, courtesy of a friend also making the Vegas trip.  We'll call him "Mash Bro".

As you can see, the beauty of this dessert is evident in that it combines the best of tiramisu lady fingers on the bottom layer, with the creamy goodness of cheese cake in the middle, and the creaminess of a tiramisu on top.

A hearty thank you to Mash Bro for thinking of Tiramisu Guy while out on the town.  I'm sure he could have put those funds to use on the electronic craps machine, but instead helped make this post happen for all of our fans.  Thank you Mash Bro!

Of course, a post on this blog would not be complete without a photo of the real dessert we tasted.  Here it is...

Ok, so it's not exactly like the picture on the website...  but the taste is there.  On our new rating scale, this one takes home 4 Lady Fingers...

Mash Bro - I owe you one!

Until next time...

P.S.  Remember, share this with your friends and tell them to follow.  It's followers like you that help us fund this blog!

Bonus Post - Happy Birthday!!!

Here at Tiramisu Guy Headquarters, we like to think of our readers as family. So when one of our most faithful readers has a birthday, it’s time to celebrate!

A big shout out to our #1 reader, Diet Coke Dude, celebrating his birthday today!  Here’s to a little Bulleit Whiskey added to the Diet Coke today for a HUGE celebration!

Tiramisu at Carmines - As if we were in Italy - or maybe New York!!

Viva Las Vegas!!!

That's right, Tiramisu Guy has ventured out to the heat of the Nevada desert - or should I say dessert.  (Ha!  A little sweet tooth humor for you!)  All kidding aside, it was great to be out and about again.  Las Vegas was hopping!!  Thankfully, everyone did a good job of social distancing to ensure we all do our part to keep this pandemic at bay.  I was out early each morning, and surprisingly saw many joggers on the roads... it was a great representation of the new, healthy vibe in Las Vegas.

But are you here to read about healthy options in Las Vegas?  NO!!!  You want tiramisu, don't you?  Well, its a good thing you're not looking for healthy options in Vegas - because what I said above was a slight exaggeration of the current state of Las Vegas on the Health-O-Meter.

Let's get on with it...  Our first tiramisu experience in Sin City was at a family style Italian restaurant, located at the Forum Shops in Caesars Palace, at a restaurant called Carmine's.  Apparently, this is a New York City classic, so we were expecting great things.

First the food...  The food was great.  I think our favorite was definitely the Porterhouse Steak.  This was huge!! It was pre-sliced for easy serving, and also came with delicious Italian sausage, and mountains of bell peppers and onions.  Delicious!  Tiramisu Guy unfortunately failed to snap a picture of this featured item, so you'll have to take my word for it...

The drinks were not so great, however.  We'll, I guess I should say I don't if they are good or not.  The drink service was a bit slow, so through our entire meal, we only received one round of drinks.  I think this had more to do with the pandemic influenced labor shortage than intentional poor service.  I like to think the workers have their customers best interest at heart, and those who were there working gave us 100%.  Need a job, Carmine's is hiring.

Ok, what you've been waiting for... the dessert, and more importantly, the tiramisu!!  Let's get right to it...

Tiramisu at Carmine's
Tiramisu at Carmine's

As you might expect at a family style restaurant, the tiramisu is family style too.  It was like a big "pie" of tiramisu.  We cut into it an dished it out to the whole table.  Check out the 3D, internal view below.

Ok... maybe that doesn't look so appetizing.  The final assessment of this dessert was that it was good, but not great.  The lady fingers seemed to be more like a pound cake, or almost a banana bread texture.  So, it was a little less than what we were expecting.

So, in our new rating system of 1-5 Lady Fingers, 5 being best - this ranks as a solid 3 Lady Fingers.

I guess you could say this dessert did not live up to the old adage, Go Big or Go Home.

There was also a great Strawberry Shortcake...  I didn't try it myself, but feedback was good.  Check it out...

Now that's a lot of whipped cream!!  I doubt however, that it is the creamy goodness of Cool Whip brand whipped topping.

That's all for now...  More from Las Vegas coming soon!

Until then...
